What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda derives from Sanskrit and means ‘the science of life and longevity’. It is in particular the wisdom of how to live according to your unique and individual constitution.  As a science of self-healing, Ayurveda encompasses diet and nutrition looking at lifestyle, exercise, relaxation, meditation, breathing exercises and medical herbs.

How does it differ?

Ayurveda looks at the individual and determines their unique lifestyle and routine. Prevention is key - Ayurveda focuses on maintaining ones mental, emotional and physical health. Food and lifestyle routines are considered the most important medicine

How does it work?

  • Ayurveda looks at the individual determining ones unique make up

  • It considers that we are all made up of the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space) in addition to the individual consciousness

  • The combination of these form the doshas. Every single one of us has a different dominance of the doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha

  • Prakruti: every human being has a unique make up, which is like the blueprint of ones being

  • Virkruti: looks at the present state of the three doshas in one person. If Virkruti equals Prakruti then the person is in a balanced state

  • Often due to diet, lifestyle, emotions, age and environment the Virkruti reflects a different dominance in doshas.

  • An Ayurvedic Health Advisor can help you to balance your state
