Why Cleansing?

We are all busy with our daily lives, racing from one appointment to the other.

 

Often when we have many things on our plate, we do not always make optimal choices in nutrition and lifestyle. This may lead to your digestive system not working optimally.

 

If that’s the case, your body cannot digest properly whatever is coming in through the senses and through our mouth. If things cannot be broken down in the right way this leads to a build up of Ama, which in Ayurveda we refer to as undigested toxins.

 

While we are busy running from A to Z, our body is simultaneously busy to eliminate waste, renew cells and fighting off infections, recovering after workouts. ​

 

A detox allows you to hit the SACRED PAUSE BUTTOM. We take in lighter food, so that Ama can be digested and your system gets a break from everything. It can then focus on rejuvenating, clearing out, recover and let go.

 

Our body can then tune in to its innate wisdom again and begin to cleanse itself from the inside out. Our digestive fire, called Agni, gets a reset and starts to function better and better.

According to Ayurveda, detoxing is a great way to stimulate the digestive system and get it working optimally again. It also digests excess doshas and Ama. The start of spring is the time to do an Ayurvedic detox!

How are we going to do it?

In an ayurvedic detox you can continue to eat - No juices, but just as effective!

 

Traditionally, a detox in Ayurveda is often done by following a mono-diet of kitchari. Kitchari is known for its cleansing and nourishing properties and contains the 6 flavors, so that it optimally supports your digestion.

 

​Ayurveda recommends a simple approach in which the detox can easily be combined with work or family life. This is often much more effective in the long run and much gentler on your body.

 

In the first 4 days you prepare your body by removing coffee, sugars, alcohol, dairy, meat, fish and refined products from your diet for a few days. Then you eat only kitchari for a few days. You are not hungry in this detox, but it is still very effective.

 

After these days you build up again to a full, healthy diet. You're giving your digestive system a serious break from all its activities, allowing your body to cleanse itself on a deep level.

 

During an Ayurvedic detox you can support the cleansing process with mild forms of exercise and adjustments in your lifestyle. But because a lot of emotions can be released and you may run into persistent thought patterns, taking enough rest is also essential. We guide you from day to day and are there for your questions and for support!
